My favorite fortune cookie reads: "Your meaning of love is special. Why not share it."

My first thought was, ugh, punctuation!

My second thought was that I'd permanently tape this little treasure next to my "love" objet to remind me daily to breathe in the love. During the parenting witching hour (dinner, bathtime and bedtime for 4 little kids), it's a dear and delicate reminder to live in the moment and be a devoted, affectionate caretaker.

Which can feel hard sometimes.

Later, I thought for a long time about what MY "special meaning of love" actually is. Love in general is caring and hearts and all, but what was my personal spin?

I pondered, and decided that my special meaning of love is replacing frustration/anger with tenderness. Replacing irritation with a hug. Like I said: hard sometimes.

And, Jasmine Swann, a self-characterized "clean beauty junkie with a dirty past" has a special meaning of love too. Of course, hers isn't easy either.

She opened an awesome little shop in Briarcliff Manor, and it's quickly become the place in Westchester for clean beauty. Whether she's telling you "it’s time to break up with conventional cosmetics and fall in love with your skin" or discussing sun protection whilst reminding us "how much we love those beautiful golden rays," the sweetness just oozes.

It's dear and delicate reminder to live in the moment and be a devoted, affectionate caretaker.

But she admits that being a caretaker of skin is hard. Quitting your favorite conventional products and making the switch to green beauty "can be overwhelming." She admits that "beauty-defeating language" pounds us in the media, and that "the conventional beauty industry has been lying to you for too long."

Then she offers a hug: "So, give yourself a hug and repeat after us: Your skin is too beautiful for..." (and then she lists a plethora of UN-pronouncable yet common cosmetic ingredients.

Now, I'm a sucker for anything buzzy or new in the beauty industry, which means I probably use a lot of those bad ingredients. But I also love to try something different, so I dove right in. A visit to the store was not only a lovely learning experience, but also a moment to feel Jasmine's passion emanate.

At once a #shopsmall champion and a personal user of her wares, Jasmine loves to teach you how to love what she loves. You can also get skincare treatments and natural-beauty makeovers. What a fun place to play. And play I did. A fucscia Gressa lip looked fun on me, right?

Fun alone, but better with beauty buddies!

Xx, Mom in Mascara
